The Wardrobe - the most important piece of furniture in "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe"

Although not technically a character, the Wardrobe plays a central role in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." It serves as a sometimes-portal to the magical land of Narnia, first for Lucy, then Edmund, then for all four of the Pevensie children.

When Peter and Susan first relate Lucy's story about the magical wardrobe to Professor Kirke, its' owner, he seems strangely calm and willing to accept Lucy's wild story. What the children, as well as the audience, don't realize at this point is that Professor Digory Kirke, as a young boy, travelled to narnia himself, and brought back a special piece of fruit (the story can be found in the prequel, "The Magician's Nepthew"). Young Digory planted the seed of that other-worldy fruit, which grew into a beautiful tree and spent many years in his garden. After the tree was struck by lightning, Professor Kirke had the wood of the tree made into several objects, including the magical Wardrobe.
