Davinci was magnificent "in his time" because he WAS IN HIS TIME! His designs were so advanced for the age he was living in that they provoked thought and showed an understanding of concepts that were not widely accepted. THAT is why he was magnificent.

DiVinci in his time was magnificant, but I really don't think many would know his name if he was alive today. The world is far too complex for any one man to made wide sweeping contributions to many fields any more.

I agree. I the reason he is like that is because his entire artistic career is focused around one repetitive design element. As a mechanical engineering student, I appreciate the rotary linkage design, but everything he makes is the same. I'm not sayings hes not a genius, to compare him to DiVinci is like comparing Nickelback to Led Zeppelin.
