I'm sure TGV engineers (or Germany's highspeed ICE) could build something that would break 620km/h. Get a long stretch of straight track, increase aerodynamics, and put even more powerful engines on with non-standard gearings. There'd be NO point in doing this though... air resistance is the SQUARE of speed, so this is ONLY to showoff. Building a faster train shouldn't be the focus. We need to focus on building a rail network to accomodate fast trains/making it cheaper. THAT is the challenge.

Impressive, but NOT the worlds fastest train.
1. Japan's JR-Maglev is the fastest train, at 581kmph.
2. Transrapid is the fastest train which carries passengers (in China).
3. Siemens Valero is the fastest commercially operated wheeled train.
4. TGV is the fastest wheeled train.
Air resistance is so high at those speeds, it would be totally uneconomical. With the exception of Transrapid, which actually runs over 500kmh normally, its expensive though!!
