Produced in 1967 for RKO-Jomar, this Hanna-Barbera cartoon followed the same route taken by the Laurel and Hardy cartoons from the previous year. The animated version of the Bud Abbott and Lou Costello comedy team was unique in the fact that Bud Abbott (1895-1974) himself provided the voice for his animated counterpart. In fact, the cartoon residuals were Abbott's main source of income during his illness riddled later years. The voice of his partner, Lou Costello (1906-1959), was provided by Stan Irwin. These cartoons failed to capture the magic of the duo's live-action films, and the 156 episodes were only seen in a limited number of markets.

I just took another listen and I was quite wrong. You are absolutely correct, bigg3469. Apologies to all.

Yep it was John "Mr Slate" Stephenson who was the voice of the scientist.

I thought the voice of the scientist was either Hal Smith or John Stephenson.

I think the great Mel Blanc is the voice for the germ. Don Messick did Scooby Doo, Astro, and Ranger Smith. Can't tell what voice he is in this.

and don't forget the voice of Paul Frees as the scientist...

It must have been strange for Bud to work with a sound-a-like of his legendary partner. You can tell that Bud sounds very old and or tired at times. I guess they really couldn't do much with this, but this makes me miss Lou even more, it's missing his comedic touch. Still, I'm glad they did this to introduce them to new fans.
