1954 78RPM copy of Columbia Records #40400, Art Carney (of 'The Honeymooners' fame as Ed Norton) and drummer Sam "Mr. Rhythm" Ulano performing " "Twas the Night Before Christmas" on a 1956 Philco turntable. I found this record before I even had a 78RPM capable turntable, but just had to have it. For $8.00, in original paper sleeve in excellent shape, It was hard to turn away. This recording was the first time I had ever played/heard it. I like it alot more than the A-Side, which I Also have on youtube. Kinda a cool 'beatnik' feeling to it. Cool, Man......Cool.

I'll bet this one turned up at lots of teen holiday parties in '54...!

In the case of Columbia, they had different matrix numbering systems per speed (with "CO" prefix for 78 and "ZSP" for 45), and except for Hollywood, the numbers didn't match. I like to get 78's too, on occasion - if side-by-side with the 45's of the same release.

I have the 45 as well, but prefer to record 78's whenever I can. A few times, I recorded the 45 and found the 78 days later...such was the case with 'two front teeth' by Spike Jones.

I actually have the 45 of this, myself. As I do of some of Carney's other singles (notably "Song of the Sewer").

Isnt it great! I found the 45 of this too, but the 78 is so much cooler! Thanks for the comment.
