Infamous Fixed 1985 Draft NBA on CBS coverage of the 1985 NBA Draft Lottery, the first ever. I got a lot of complaints about my original video not showing David Stern reaching into the drum for the alleged "frozen envolope" so I included the entire thing, as well as Dave Debusschere showing a Ewing jersey already made up. A prelude to the Knicks-Pacers rivalry of the 1990's. Fans of the bent envelope theory point to 4:50 of the video where the corner of the envelope that would eventually be picked #1 can be seen with a bent corner sticking up. Narrated by Pat O'Brien

Now, I'm just thinking logically now. The corner of the envelope was bent. Yes. The envelope picked was a major market team. Yes. The Knicks got the best player in the NBA Draft. Of course. But then again, the Knicks also didn't win an NBA championship. Patrick Ewing spent his whole career without a ring, and this team only made it to the finals thanks to Jordan's early retirement, and then his second one in 1999. I can't say the NBA is actually rigged.

Freeze at like 5:31-5:32. It seems as though he's making sure the envelope has a bent corner.

ohh, but the others conveniently weren't bent, and conveniently the only bent one was the one chosen...what are the odds. 1/49 chance

Notice that he sort of exhales before reaching for the envelope? Why would he exhale unless he were feeling some sort of pressure, such as worrying that he might accidentally pick the wrong envelope and cost the league hundreds of millions of dollars.

God, I wish that was true about the 80's being the "Ewing Era." Of course, who knew about "Air" Jordan.
