Buster Keaton attempts to serenade a senorita and discovers it's more trouble than it's worth. From the Columbia short "Pest from the West", 1939. It was produced by Jules White, the man behind the Three Stooges. BTW, it would take me too long to explain why he's dressed like that so just go with it.

Buster doing this song in the movie "The Invader" is better but this is a great bit. And he was dressed like a cossack because he kept falling off his boat into the water.

I love this! I would like to know why Buster is dressed like a Cossack in Mexico! Bud Jamison as a stereotyped Mexican! The woman who gets the guitar smashed on her head is Adrian Booth Brian aka Lorna Gray. She was in the Stooges short You Natzy Spy as the woman with the 8 ball 'crystal' ball. She is still alive today!

You're absolutely right. Bud Jamison (not Johnson)is the guy in the window. Thanks for correcting that, Dogsledfan.
Dogsledfan (June 23, 2008 at 5:52 am)
saxophoney - could you mean Bud JAMISON perhaps?

Notice Stooges/Jules White regular Bud Johnson in the upstairs window.

actually i'm pretty sure he thought this was the best thing he did for columbia 'cause it was his first one for them and he wanted to make it special and he had del lord (a mack sennett veteran) directing and clyde bruckman writing it

he's before chaplin 4 me. the only reason i watch silent films is because of him. now i'm a huge silent fan. from clara bow 2 harold lloyd i watched em all cuz of him. going on 14 years and i'm only 26 and still laughing at his films. one of a kind. never 2 be replaced.

It's just a case of Buster needing the money and having to doing things he normally wouldn't do. It's not ALL bad though. Certainly not his best but there are a couple of good Columbia shorts that he did. I actually kind of enjoyed "Pardon my Berth Marks" and of course this one being "Pest from the West" & some of the others do have some good "Buster Moments".
