If chaplin was jealous of keaton then he wouldn't have had keaton in the film. period

Well - it IS Chaplin's film (and don't forget, he was going through a very rough time at this point in his life, and this would be his last film released in America. I think he wanted to be remembered kindly by them, so if the rumours of unfair editing are true it's not so much because of jealousy, but because it was his final bow and he knew it.)

There are those who say that Chaplin was quite jealous of Keaton, and that he edited this scene so as to diminish Keaton's prowess.
If this is so, then he did a pretty piss poor job of it, because they're both HILARIUS!

In"the dreamers"(by B.Bertolucci)the 2 boys discuss about who is the funniest. That makes me think this is an old question, and there is no answear to old questions.

My comment was not originated as a reply to yours. When I say I cannot judge Keaton because this is the only movie with him I know,I say the truth, and you should appreciate my lack of presumption.

Melito, just so you know, when i said keaton is funnier, i wasn't necessarily referring to this skit, just in general. I would be interested in seeing how you feel about Buster Keaton if you look up any of his skits or films. By the way, The General is his best film, in my opinion.
