Inflation is natural and ALWAYS happens to all currencies in population increases. USD is still one of the highest currencies in the world. Money tied to metals was worth more, but it was also harder to get; Average earnings at $5-$10 a week. Inflation deters the wealthy from sitting on money and withdrawing from the economy. If there were no inflation, thousands would leave the work force having easily amassed wealth in savings with the same dollar value, and the entire country would shut down.

It is not that horrifying:)We have a lot of other mechanisms in order to sustain a growing "free" economy. But you are right about the worthlessness of the dollar bill. What you thing about the role of base borrowing rate? Thank you
