Wyrd, I am sure your Mom is a fine woman, especially if she raised a man willing to serve his country in the military. I would like to personally thank you for serving us and helping to keep us free. I do think however that advising someone to "smoke a joint" does not reconcile with the principles associated with being called a Marine. I too love hippies as we are called to love all people. I don't love some of their actions and the results of those actions 40 years later.

My Mom wasnt some self seving pleasure seeker... she was anti-Vietnam 2war... how does helping a corrupt gvt fight off another corrupt gvt guard American freedom...? it doesnt...neither did invading Iraq...which I'm sure you approved off... Afghanistan was a good invasion though in my opinion I'm a former US Marine and I love hippies ! go smoke a joint and relax...

I think to absolutely discount one side or another in this argument is wrong. Certainly, some of the methods used on either side were not ideal HOWEVER that doesn't make the contributions EITHER OF THEM made any less valuable. The people who fought against the war saw themselves and each other in the war casualties ... The people who fought for it did so because they saw themselves and in others in those being oppressed ... they were just different ways of helping!! SHARE UNIVERSAL LOVE GUYS!!

And the only message that was sent by the hippies is..........see what drugs can do to a generation!!!!! We are still recovering from those times. Let's not forget that hippies were self serving pleasure seekers that lived off of other poeples hard work!!!! How did that stop any wars???????????????

Are you referring to my comment below sir? "The Man" does not want war sir. "The Man" understands that freedom comes at a cost. Freedom "ain't " free!!!!! Our world would be a very different place today (and NO not for the better) if we hadn't stood up for what is right.
