It's hard for people today using modern standards of race relations to understand but his type of performance actually was used to help end discrimination

There were plenty of blacks entertaining the same way. You people just have to get it right. This was not considered anti black.

Couldn't he have found another way to entertain people?

I sure wish people could get past the black face and see Al Jolson for the talented man he was!!! He really was one of the greatest entertainers of all time, ask anyone who knows anything about the history of music and entertainment!

I donot read books by people who indeed, never knew the man or his associates or later family members ,,,, or that sick politically correct thinking you seem to cling to,,,,,,,,yet know nothing about, pertaining to Jolson or the practices of the time, either. Please refrain from this B..S nonsense until you live a bit longer or become more educated!

If anyone exemplifies the Jewish Talmudic discrimination against blacks (curse of Ham)it must be Al Jolson. As talented as he was, he clung to blackface way too long! See Dr. Martin and his work on the troubled black-Jewish relationship in American history and beyond.
