It was obvious that Frank Nelson wouldn't return as "Ralph Ramsey" when "I LOVE LUCY" was cancelled, but Lucy liked working with him (as far back as his frequent appearances on her "MY FAVORITE HUSBAND" radio show), and she was probably the one who insisted on him being cast as the "Cruise Director" in this first special.

Holy crap, Frank Nelson has appeared in most episodes of I Love Lucy but the character of Ralph Ramsey in Season 6 when the Ricardo's moved to Connecticut and the Ramsey's were their neighbors.

This originally aired on November 6, 1957 [9-10:15pm(et)], and was the first of the five hour-long specials Lucy & Desi appeared in that season for Ford. Desi got a waiver for the extra 15 minutes through U.S. Steel, who allowed this to "spill over" into the "U.S. STEEL HOUR" [it was 45 minutes that night, as Desi mentions in his curtain call]. When this episode was rebroadcast, it was re-edited, the sequences with Hedda Hopper were omitted, and Desi tied it together with new narration.
