I have to admit the day my girls (now in their 30's) asked me who John Wayne was (when they were MUCH younger), I thought I had failed as a parent.

I knew about a lot of the symbolism in this song before, but this is the first time I realized that "the courtroom was adjourned, no verdict was returned" might refer to the JFK assassination and the Warren Commission report. Also the first time I've seen JFK and Jackie referred to as the "king and queen" -- I heard years ago that this line referred to Elvis and Connie Francis (the top female singer of the time)
