The Colombian Free Trade Agreement now postponed until after the elections is a bad idea. The agreement must be done, if ever, by Obama's Administration and then, only, if it clearly shows the benefits to our economy, the Colombian economy and proper funds are made available for any workers hurt by the agreement, with this right enforceable in Federal Court.

On the Colombian side there must be a political space for an opposition government, if they survive an election against the Colombian right. In 1984, after a peace process with the Belisario Betancur Administration, the demobilized guerrillas now
proactively participating were assassinated to the tune of 4,000. Two Presidential candidates, Carlos Pizarro LeonGomez and Bernard Jaramillo Ossa, for the Union Patriotica Party were gunned down by the establishment.

Comohpmevoyallamaren made a point,Colombia is a beautiful country & has wonderful people. Unfortunately 20% of the rich control 60% of the wealth. 50% of the population lives below the poverty level. Those wishing to keep low wages through murder put the dirt on Colombia. The blame should not be put on the messenger. Columbiandreams says that things have improved since 2001. Yes, there are less murders of union members, but Colombia still leads the world & prosecution is at less than 10%.

he's talking about the ppl that were killed in so many years, but you know what? more ppl have been killed in the las 5 years in US in schools, minors obviously, he's talking about the death of ppl who go to Colombia to steel and not to mention that their own AMERICAN companies supply those Colombian terrorists because thats who they get all the coccaine from, FTA only helps US, we dont have the tropical wheather to have so many things that Colombia has. dont take advantage from

ur stats are from 2001 get them from 2007 and then lets see if there is progress or not. FTA agreement to continue the progress colombia has made in the past 5 years with the Uribe. |
