Actually, if the books 'the hobbit' and 'Dune' had never been written then Dawn of war might never have been invented. I say this as Tolkein popularised Orks, goblins and fantasy in a big way leading to warhammer fantasy and 40k is a spin off. The book Dune resulted in a movie which resulted in a game which resulted in a type of realtime wargame. It's like a family tree of fantasy and science fiction and dawn of war is the grandchild of Dune and Tolkein's books, sort of. ;)

sorry, should say "no moVies have been made"

That would mean the Warhammer 40k universe is an original science fiction idea which has got so big now I'd say it's on a per with star trek and star wars. The only reason it's not bigger is that the general public know nothing of it because no monies have been made. But if they ever did make movies, they could make as many as they liked(unlike star wars) and the movies would be unbelievablely good provide3d the director was a 40k fan and understood the whole idea.

So to clear things up: Warhammer 40k is a spin off from warhammer the tabletop wargame, Dune2 the computer game is a spin off from a 1980's Movie and all games which look an play a little like command and conquer are spin offs of dune 2.

Spice refers to the 1980s Movie 'Dune' in which they harvest 'spice', a valuable substance. I see this as proof that Dune2 is the father of all games of this type(resource-gathering-building-bases-wargames) as the whole idea of harvesting resources(spice)originated in a movie. Tiberium and requisition are copies of this idea.

This game is based on warhammer 40k, the tabletop wargame which has been around for around nearly 20 years. In saying that, all COMPUTER games of this type which appear to be copies of command and conquer actually have their roots in the computer game DUNE2. Command and conquer is an almost straight copy of Dune 2 where 'spice' is harvested while command and conquer copied this idea and renamed it 'Tiberium'.
