The Mahabharat is full of heroes - Bheeshmacharya, Dronacharya, Kripacharya, Karna, Arjuna, Bhima, Krishna and many more.
It has got only four villains - Dhritarashtra, Duryodhana, Dussasana and Shakuni.
The turning point of Karna's life was when it was Duryodhana who spoke for him at Dronacharya's tournament. So he was always indebted to the wicked prince.

When Arjuna heard of his son Abhimanyu's death, what did he do? Did he just simply sit on the battlefield in a yoga posture? No, he decided to kill the cause of Abhimanyu's death in 1 day.
Dronacharya did fight on for some more time after hearing of Ashvattama's death, exterminating 100000 warriors. But, I do not fight a reason on why he should give up his life in a trance of mystic yoga (as given in the book).
Dhrishtadyumna is a sinful wretch because of this act.

so many people have posted comments on my point of view towards mahabharat.I have seen it innumerable times...some people find my views insensible...so be it.....lets be practical....arjun was on dharma side...so he was victorious...had he not lord krishna with him...he was a needle before karna...take up ur point of views to urselves.....all accepted....this epic is common for all hindus...karna suffered his fate..thats the ultimate truth...insulting a lady is catastrophic...

Please refer to the texts when you comment otherwise it makes no sense, right? This "lucky" Arjun was the one who in the garb of Brihannala SINGLEHANDEDLY decimated the entire Kaurava army consisting of Bheeshma, Drona, Karna, Kripa, Ashwaththhama, Duryodhana, Dushshasan et al when they were pilfering the cattle of the Matsya kingdom (ref. Virat Parva).

And Kritavarma was himself a Yadava. He belonged to the Bhoja lineage. Why he joined Duryodhana and especially the unfair killing of Abhimanyu, who was like a nephew to him, is a mystery. I feel his mentality was like that of a mercenary warrior...

AND... consider Pradyumna. During the battle with Vaanasura, Lord Shiva himself came to his disciple Vaana's aid along with his army led by the mighty Kaartikeya. (Balarama was not there in this.) In the three main clashes of the Titans, Krishna defeated Shiva, Pradyumna engaged and defeated Kaartikeya and Satyaki took on and defeated Vaana. Surely, defeating the mighty Devasenapati is no mean feat. No doubt Pradyumna was a hallowed hero.
Add to this Aniruddha, and the others...

V, I choose to disagree with you here. The Yadavas were an unbeatable race. Balarama was the Avatara of Sheshanaga, in his entire life he was defeated only once & that too by none other than the great Hanumana himself! The Bhagavadpurana states when he went to release Shaamb who was imprisoned by the Kauravas (after Laxmanaa-haran) and was insulted, he struck the ground with his famous 'Hal' & there was an earthquake. They say that's why till date Delhi is tilted towards a side. Imagine!!!

Yeah, but couldn't he have destroyed his entire clan by directing them to fight on the Pandava side in the war? Surely, Bheeshma, Drona, Kripa, Ashwatthama, Bhagadatta, Bhurishrava and Kritavarma would have been enough to destroy enough of the Yadavas. |
