Really? She always just looked like a hip older lady to me. Personally, I liked her better than Lucy just because of her character.

Funny thing is that nowadays a 25 year age differnce would not make people think twice. Anna Nicole married a man who could have been her grandfather, but we all know that was for the money the guy had. I also know of a couple with a ten year age difference, and Laura Ingalls Wilder and Almanzo Wilder also had ten years between them (the real Wilders and the actors who played them on the Little House TV show).

In this ad, she looks prettier than she normally did as Ethel Mertz...funny thing was that there was a clause in her contract requiring her to remain overweight and to wear frumpier clothes during the half-hour "Lucy" episodes. In the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" episodes, you'll notice Ethel looks much nicer than before. Strange, too, that Vivian Vance was actually a year younger than Lucy--and William Frawley was a full quarter-century older than Viv!
