That was the premise of the show. She was the daffy yet loveable housewife who caused chaos when she interfered with the life/job of her man. A little chauvenistic, but the show seems to mock chauvenism too.
It wasnt Desi that said she was nuts, it was a fan of the show who sent him a letter.
The letter was refering to Lucy Ricardo, the T.V show character, not Lucille Ball the person.
