Are You Done Yet? A free Christian clown skit for two clowns, demonstrating patience as one of the fruits of the Spirit. Original by Raynbow the Clown, inspired by a one-clown skit from Clown Skits for Everyone by Happy Jack Feder
Props: A drawing pad (or as fancy as you’d like; feel free to use an artists’ tripod, etc.)—with Galatians 5:22 printed on it
Skit starts with Clown 1 entering, sitting in a chair at stage center, looking straight ahead (i.e. the audience has a ‘portrait’ view of Clown 1)
Clown 1: (looking at his watch—showing all of the signs of impatience) Well, I’m here for my portrait—I hope this won’t take long—I’m a very busy clown!
(Clown 2 enters, with an artist’s sketch pad, or tripod, or whatnot. Dressed in an artist’s smock)
Clown 2: Hello! Good to see you’re right on time! Just a minute, and we’ll begin.
(As Clown 2 starts to set up—facing the audience, preparing to sketch Clown 1, Clown 1 glances at watch again, visibly shows impatience, walks over behind Clown 1—Clown 1 is oblivious to Clown 2)
Clown 1: Are you done yet?
Clown 2: (taken by surprise, reacts in a broad, clown-like manner—hands go flying, as does the sketch pad, easel, pencils, crayons, etc.) Yipe! (reacts, does a ‘take’ to the audience, turns to Clown 1) Don’t do that! You scared me witless!
Clown 1: (in an aside to the audience) Why blame me for what Nature did? (to Clown 2) Are you done yet?
Clown 2: (exasperated) NO, I just got here! Go sit in the chair patiently while I get set back up.
Clown 1: (sulkily) O-kay. (drags himself back to the chair, sits down, watches Clown 2 gather up his supplies, get set back up. Displays all of the signs of impatience. Just as Clown 2 is about to put the brush/pencil/crayon to the canvas for the first time, he speaks) Are you done yet?
Clown 2: (upset) NO, I’m not done yet! I’m just beginning! Show a little patience please.
Clown 1: Okay.
Clown 2: All right.
Clown 1: All right then. (extends his arm towards Clown 2, holds up his thumb—typical artistic tomfoolery here, as Clown 1 prepares to work on his masterpiece).
Clown 2: Are you done yet?
Clown 1: (more upset) NO!! I’M NOT DONE YET!
Clown 2: Why not?
Clown 1: (does a take - a ‘slow burn’ - to the audience). All right. That does it. Do you know what the Bible says about patience?
Clown 2: No, can’t say that I do. (Looks at his watch again). Are you done yet?
Clown 1: Furiously begins drawing (or pretending to draw—actually, the artists’ sketch already has the verse printed on it) Here! You need this more than you need a portrait! (takes the ‘sketch’ and walks over to Clown 2. Clown 2 stands up, they stand side by side) Read this!
Clown 2: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering..."
Clown 1: That’s ‘patience’, by the way.
Clown 2: "kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (turns the ‘sketch’ around for the audience to see). That’s very nice.
Clown 1: (starting to regain his composure) Thank you.
Clown 2: (glancing at his watch one last time—looking at Clown 1 with trepidation) So… are you done yet?
(ends with a chase off stage)
Fruit of the Spirit:
- "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
