Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard!  Men in Black is a very funny, very fast-paced Three Stooges short film starring Moe, Larry and Curly as medical doctors who been graduated from medical school simply due to the length of time that they were attending—but the Stooges are willing to prove themselves by working “for duty and humanity!” It’s a very, very funny, very fast-paced Three Stooges comedy.  It’s a great blend of truly funny slapstick, running gags and verbal humor in the Three Stooges style.

In fact, it’s hard to mention highlights or favorite moments, since there are so many—running gags include the repeated breaking of the glass door of the chief of medicine’s office, the Three Stooges repeated page “Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard!”, etc.  Likewise there are some many great comic scenes that I can’t pick a favorite, whether it’s the Stooges having to operate on the chief doctor, their interaction with a midget patient, dealing with a telegram messenger, causing and clearing traffic jams in the hall of the hospital, etc.  It’s amazing how much comedy the boys managed to cram into only 19 minutes.  It’s a true classic, and bears the honor of being the only Three Stooges nominated for an Academy Award.  It also marks the origin of Curly’s famous “woo woo woo!”

Men in Black is available on the Three Stooges DVD collection Curly Classics.  Courtesy of YouTube is a clip from the Three Stooges Men in Black

Dr. Moe Howard:Yes, that’s true.

Dr. Curly Howard: Pardon me if I laugh. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk! That’s a pippin!
Hiccupping Nurse:Oh, I know what a pippin is.
Dr. Larry Fine:You do, eh? What’s a pippin?
Hiccupping Nurse:Uh, a pippin is an apple with a skin on the outside.
Dr. Moe Howard:Did you ever see an apple with a skin on the inside?
Hiccupping Nurse:Oh, sure I did.
Dr. Larry Fine:You did?

Dr. Larry Fine:Where?
Hiccupping Nurse:In homemade apple pie.

Dr. Curly Howard:That’s too bad. What’s the matter?
Doctor with ‘Tiny Patient’:She’s in a coma.

Tiny Patient:Say, doctor, do you really think I’m gonna get better?
Dr. Moe Howard:I’m very sorry, but I’m afraid you are.
