God moves in a mysterious way, his wonders to perform ...

Earlier this month, my wife & I had written a short clown about blessings, where the gist of it is a clown crying out to God, expressing his needs, and asking God why he isn’t ever blessed—while different individuals keep interrupting him to bless him with food and other things, all the while being indifferent to how God is answering his prayers.  Ever have one of those moments where you’re preaching to yourself, and don’t even realize it?

This last Tuesday, my wife Ellen was driving our youngest daughter, Genevieve, to a physical therapy appointment, and they were in a car accident.  Neither of them were seriously hurt, but Ellen got sunstroke in the heat while waiting for the police to arrive, and ended up being taken to the emergency room. The car was a wreck, and it would have cost more to repair it than it was worth.  It was our only vehicle—I didn’t even have a way to get from my day job to the emergency room.  So, where was God in my little micro-emergency?

He was there in the person of Tina Castrova, my pastor’s wife, who left work to go to the scene of the accident, pick up my youngest daughter, pick me up from work, and get me from work.  Even more, though, God has a sense of humor.

We got a loaner car the next day (thank you, Progressive!), and yesterday we got a new vehicle to replace our ruined Chrysler Town & Country—I really liked that vehicle, too.  However, we got a Ford FreeStar instead, and here’s the funny part—the ‘new’ car is 4 years newer, and has 15,000 less miles on it, and we’re making the same monthly payment.  In addition, while we were waiting at the car dealership, a local radio station (Z104 was doing a contest there (a surprise to us), and doing drawings for free NASCAR tickets.  Now, I’m not a NASCAR fan, but my wife is, and so I thought it would be funny if we’d have won a pair of tickets—which we did!  And, to put a cherry on top, we were automatically entered into a drawing for VIP passes to the same NASCAR event—and we won those, too.

Here’s what might be the funniest part of the whole story - my wife Ellen felt that God wanted her to give them away, and we have.  As I say, God has a sense of humor.
