The King of Comedy - Jerry Lewis, Robert DeNiro

Jerry Lewis' The King of Comedy is not the typical Jerry Lewis movie. It's not a comedy, it's not for the children. It's a very dark comedy (although rated PG), looking at the behind-the-scenes life of Jerry Langford (played straight, and brilliantly, by Jerry Lewis), a talk-show host similar to Johnny Carson. Langford is not a likeable fellow - he's rude, arrogant, conceited, and dismissive of everyone else -- when he's not on camera. The basic plot involves an obsessed fan of Langford's, played brilliantly by a yound Robert DeNiro, who ultimately kidnaps Langford -- in exchange for doing a comedy monologue on Langford's nightly show. It's a very dark movie, looking at Hollywood behind the scenes -- and it's not a nice view at all, although riveting. It's not the normal Jerry Lewis movie at all, but definitely worth watching.

The Nutty Professor - Jerry Lewis

movie review of The Nutty Professor starring Jerry Lewis and Stella Stevens. An excellent film, highly recommended, with sympathetic characters, good acting, a very nice story with a strong message, and plenty of Jerry Lewis' characteristic slapstick.

The Delicate Delinquent - Jerry Lewis

The Delicate Delinquent is Jerry Lewis' first solo film without Dean Martin. In the title role, Jerry Lewis is mistaken for a gang member during a police round-up, and a caring police officer, played by Darren McGavin, intercedes in the directionless young man's life, for the better. Both comedy and drama, it's a fairly well done (although lower budget) film, and definitely worth watching.

The Bellboy - Jerry Lewis

The Bellboy is a very, very funny movie starring Jerry Lewis - also written, directed and produced by Jerry Lewis. While he was performing full-time at the resort in the picture, he wrote, etc. the entire movie in his 'spare' time. It was, and remains, one of his funniest movies.
