Joe was sitting down on his front steps, looking as though he had lost his last dollar. His friend, Dan, walked by, and asked him what the matter was.
Joe answered, "Well, you know how I’ve been working on a novel part-time for years, right?"
Dan nodded. Joe continued, "Well, I finally finished it and submitted it to a publisher, and they wrote back, telling me that I had written a first-grade novel."
Dan excitedly said, "That’s great! Why do you look so glum?"
Joe sighed and said, "Because they also said that most of their readers have gone past the first grade."
