You are here: Charlie Chaplin >Charlie Chaplin music
Many people tend to think of Charlie Chaplin as a great movie clown, actor, writer, director or even producer—but few people think of him as a composer of music. This is understandable, since the majority of his films were silent, but even those silent films had music playing while the movie was being shown—and Charlie Chaplin composed many of those tunes, especially for his feature length films. A sample of Charlie Chaplin’s musical credits include:
- Smile, the theme music to City Lights (1936)
- This is my song, the theme music to A Countess in Hong Kong (1967)—recorded by Petula Clark—oddly enough, the music became a bigger hit than the movie for which it was composed.
- Swing Little Girl, composed for the reissue of The Circus (1970)
- Bound for Texas, composed for the reissue of The Pilgrim (part of The Chaplin Revue) (1959)
- Sardine Song, composed for Limelight (1952)
- Eternally, the theme music for Limelight (1952)
