Deep Sea Fishing - I Love Lucy season 6 - originally aired November 19, 1956
After having gone Off to Florida, Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) and Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance) meet up with the boys—husbands Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz), Fred Mertz (William Frawley), and Lucy’s son Little Ricky. While the boys go off fishing, the girls go off shopping, and spend way too much money. How to explain it to their husbands? Lucy concocts a scheme where, the next time the boys are going to go fishing, the girls will ask to go along—and when they say no, the ladies will go shopping again, and show the boys the packages. Foiling the scheme, however, Ricky and Fred invite them along, to prevent them from spending more money. Lucy then decides to make a ‘friendly’ wager with the boys, that if they catch a bigger fish the boys will pay them $150.00—which will just cover their spending spree.
The ‘friendly’ wager turns a little less friendly, however, when both sides decide to cheat, by purchasing a very large fish, and trying to hide it in each others’ bathtubs, with a whole lot of ice. Of course, this quickly turns into a comedy of errors when somebody once to takes a bath, and each tries to ‘sneak’ the fish into the other bathtub, eventually to run into each other in the hallway. It’s a very funny scene, as is the actual fishing the next day. They’re all on the boat together, having miserable luck fishing until Little Ricky catches a small fish—and since he’s male, the boys claim that they’ve won. However, Lucy thinks that she has a bite on her line, not realizing that she’s tangled with Ricky’s fishing line, and when she tries to reel in her ‘catch’, Ricky’s expensive fishing rod gets pulled into the water, and he dives in after it. Lucy proceeds to reel in Ricky, and unexpectedly wins the contest, as Ricky has a (larger) fish hitchhiking a ride in his clothes—and as Lucy says, since she caught Ricky, the fish counts towards the womens’ catch!
Deep Sea Fishing is part of the I Love Lucy season 6 DVD collection.

Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): How many weeks of allowance is that for you?
Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance): I should live so long.
Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance): Fred, you know me. You know how I get on water. I’ll be hungry and thirsty and cranky.
Fred Mertz (William Frawley): What’s your excuse on dry land?
Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance): [After pulling in Ricky from the water] Are you wet?
