Helmet of Salvation, a skit for 2 clowns - part of Steve Conley's Armor of God series

by (originally posted to the Clown Ministry group at http://groups.yahoo.com)

Scripture Reference: Ephesians 6:17, John 14:6 NIV Zondervan

Cast: Clown 1 - Clown 1, Clown 2 - Clown 2

Props: A hard hat or helmet, Plastic bat

Clown 1: Does your head ever get you in trouble? Let me go a little deeper. Does your mind ever get you in trouble? Could it be your imagination? What about your thoughts? Do your thoughts ever get you in to trouble? If you said yes to any of these you are correct.

(Clown 2 enters)

Clown 1: Hey clown.

Clown 2: Hey.

Clown 1: Let me ask you a question.

Clown 2: Okay.

Clown 1: Have you ever had an argument with yourself?

Clown 2: What? No, I don't think so.

Clown 1: Really? Has your mind told you to do one thing but the way your heart felt you knew it was just wrong?

Clown 2: Yes. I guess so.

Clown 1: So there was confusion there?

Clown 2: Yes.

Clown 1: Your heart said no but your mind said yes?

Clown 2: Yes but...

Clown 1: So you knew you shouldn't do it, but you did! You knew it was wrong, but you did it anyway! Shame, shame, shame on you!

Clown 2: (hysterically saying) OK! I did it! I didn't want to do it! I felt bad about it after I did it! In my heart I knew it was wrong but I did it anyway. Shame, shame, shame on me! (crying)

(Clown 1 grabs Clown 2 by the shoulders)

Clown 1: Where was your helmet?

(Clown 2 stops crying and looks up)

Clown 2: My what?

Clown 1: Your helmet! Why did you not have your helmet on?

(Clown 2 looks confused)

Clown 2: Well I don't have a motorcycle but...

Clown 1: Not that kind of helmet!

Clown 2: Football? Baseball? Construction? Racing?

(Clown 1 repeats NO after each helmet example)

Clown 2: I don't have any helmets! What are you talking about?

Clown 1: Salvation.

Clown 2: What?

Clown 1: The helmet of salvation.

Clown 2: Where do I get one of those? I've never seen one.

Clown 1: Ever seen a Christian walking with confidence in their heart and their head held high?

Clown 2: Yes, I have.

Clown 1: Then you have seen the helmet of salvation.

Clown 2: So tell me, what does the helmet of salvation do?

Clown 1: Protection!

Clown 2: Yes I figured that out but...

Clown 1: Let me show you.

Clown 2: (reluctantly) Okay.

(Clown 1 pulls from behind him a hard hat and a plastic baseball bat. Clown 1 places the hard hat on Clown 2)

Clown 1: Lets say I'm the devil and this bat is bad thoughts.

Clown 2: Okay.

(Clown 1 hits Clown 2 over the head)

Clown 1: Did that hurt?

Clown 2: No.

Clown 1: Let me try it again.

Clown 2: Okay.

(Clown 1 hits Clown 2 over the head)

Clown 1: Did that one hurt?

Clown 2: No, it didn't.

Clown 1: Now take the hat off.

(Clown 2 takes the hat off)

Clown 1: Now I'm going to hit you again.

(Clown 2 jumps out of the way)

Clown 2: No you are not!

Clown 1: Why not?

Clown 2: Because I don't have the helmet on.

Clown 1: So you feel that you are not protected without the helmet?

Clown 2: Yes.

Clown 1: That is my point! If you had the helmet of salvation on your mind would be protected from all of those ugly thoughts. Your heart and mind could live in harmony.

Clown 2: I see your point but how do I get the helmet of salvation?

Clown 1: The Bible says there is only one way to Heaven and that way is through Jesus, God's only son. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." You see, good works cannot save you only God's grace can. You need to pray to God and admit you are a sinner. Be willing to turn from sin. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you, was buried, and rose from the dead. Invite Jesus into your life to become your personal Savior.

Clown 2: That's all?

Clown 1: Yes that's all.

Clown 2: That easy?

Clown 1: Yes it's that easy.

Clown 2: OK, here I go...

(Clown 2 and Clown 1 kneel to pray)

Clown 2: Dear God, I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sin. I am willing to turn from sin. I now invite Christ to come into my heart and life as my personal Savior. Amen

Clown 1: How do you feel?

Clown 2: I feel great!

Clown 1: How does your helmet fit?

Clown 2: It fits wonderful!

(Clown 1 and Clown 2 walk off stage)
