Mabel’s Busy Day—Charlie Chaplin, Mabel Normand originally released June 13, 1914
Mabel’s Busy Day has Charlie Chaplin and Mabel Normand returning to auto races, this time as spectators. Mabel is trying to make some money selling hot dogs—mostly unsuccessfully, due to customers that try to walk away with free samples. Charlie enters, and begins by simply trying to enjoy the races—and picking up free food wherever he can. He tries to be ingratiating to a group of ladies, and does some nice comic moments, but the main conflict doesn’t happen until Mabel puts down her box of hot dogs, and Charlie picks it up to disguise himself while fleeing from a police officer. He (unintentionally) begins giving away free hot dogs, and soon there’s a fight between himself and Mabel, with Mabel realizing what a lousy day she’s having, and Charlie doing his best to comfort her.
