Restless Knights (1935) starring the Three Stooges - Moe, Larry, Curly
Moe, Larry and Curly star in this Three Stooges short film, set sometime in the middle ages, as three peasants who find out from their dying (?) father that they are, in fact, royalty from the kingdom of Anesthesia. The queen is in danger, and their father sends them to protect her, after he blesses them—with a triple-slap. The Stooges arrive, and are appointed the Queen’s guards—which promptly leads into a wrestling match between the Three Stooges. Although it’s very funny to watch (with Moe, Larry and Curly mocking the sport of wrestling) the villain takes the opportunity to kidnap the Queen, and then blame the Stooges for being lax, arresting them and sentencing them to death.
Escaping from the firing squad, the Three Stooges find the Queen being held in the wine cellar, and after a patented ‘Curly gets chased by the villains while Moe and Larry hit them from behind’ (I love how Moe makes sure that Curly loses the coin toss), the boys rescue the Queen, and manage to knock her and themselves out as well.
A very funny Three Stooges short film, strongly recommended. I rate it 3 clowns.
Restless Knights is available on the Three Stooges DVD collection Three Stooges in History.
