Abbott and Costello in 'Hold that Ghost' starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Shemp Howard, the Andrews Sisters

Abbott and Costello in Hold that Ghost (1941) starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Shemp Howard and the Andrews Sisters

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello inherit a spooky motel from a dying gangster, and along with a cast of other characters (including Shemp Howard and the Andrews Sisters) they have to spend a night in the "haunted" hotel—haunted by the gangster’s partners, looking for their stolen loot that’s hidden somewhere in the hotel. It contains some of the funniest Abbott and Costello moments on film, including the ‘moving candle’ routine.

I rate it 4 clowns Clown Clown Clown Clown on a 5-clown scale.

Funny movie quotes from Abbott and Costello’s Hold That Ghost:

  • Lou Costello : I called 42 Oh, Chucks and you didn’t come in.

Bud Abbott : I came in as soon as you hollered "Oh, Chuck!"

Lou Costello : From now on, don’t wait for me to say "Oh, Chuck!" Get in here on the "Oh!"

  • Camille : You boys ready to leave?

Lou Costello : I was ready to leave when he put the key in the front door to come in!

  • Lou Costello : Look, from now on, keep one eye on that candle, another eye on that one, and with the other eye watch me!

  • Ted Lewis : Is everybody happy?
  • Lou Costello : If you see a pair of pants go flyin’ through the air, don’t grab ‘em.

    Bud Abbott : Why not?

Lou Costello : I’ll be in ‘em!
