About newsletters, members and your role here
Some changes to the clown ministry web site, and how you (yes, you behind the keyboard) can take part in it.Long-time visitors to the Clown-Ministry.com website are familiar with certain things that have fallen by the wayside, such as the calendar of upcoming events, and the newsletter. There are other things that I’ve been wanting to add for some time, such as free classified ads to allow clowns to swap, sell and buy props, makeup, costumes, etc., a forum integrated directly into the web site and, most of all, the ability for other people to submit information—articles, tutorials, reviews, etc.
Those things are now possible. I’ve recently been able to re-invest some of the money that I make from Google Adsense and Amazon’s affiliate program into purchasing a commercial version of the software that runs the website, ExpressionEngine. For nearly the last 2 years, I’ve been running the free version of their software, but the commercial version enables quite a few additional ‘bells and whistles’ that will allow me to do those things—which ties into the idea of membership.
Anyone is welcome to sign up as a member of the web site—like everything else I do on the site, it’s free—the purpose of the site is, and has always been, to spread the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ through the medium of clowning—and like the gospel, the web site is free. One thing that I’ve wanted since the beginning of the site, nearly ten years ago, is to make it a place for my fellow clowns to share their knowledge, and make it a central clearing place for clown ministry on the Internet. I never planned to be a one-man band, and I don’t profess to be the authority on either clowning or clown ministry. I’ve been sharing my knowledge and experience, and have been blessed to have other people do that as well—most notably Steve Conley’s sharing of his commercial clown skits, as well as other people. Now, that is available for everyone who is interested.
Having said that, I’d like to take a moment to encourage everyone who’s interested in signing up for a free membership. It will enable me to send the newsletter out again (I’ve had significant trouble in recent years with various ISP’s, but I can now send newsletters via email through the web site without issues), it will enable you to share your knowledge and experience, and in the near future to add your events to the calendar, post items to the free classified ads, and share your knowledge and experience with others—don’t think that you don’t have any—that’s what I though when I started this web site a decade ago. :)
