Corny Casanovas - the Three Stooges

The Three Stooges (Moe, Larry and Shemp) are each preparing to propose to their girlfriends -- not realizing that they are all dating the same girl, a gold digger who is only after the engagement rings from the boys. The short film culminates in a three-way fight, with Larry not only fighting back against Moe for once, but actually winning! A funny short, and recommended viewing.

Corny Casanovas - the Three Stooges (1952) - Moe, Larry, Shemp

Corny Casanovas (1952) is a classic Three Stooges short film (starring Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Shemp Howard).  The movie begins with Moe, Larry and Shemp trying to clean up their apartment, in order to make it more presentable for their respective girlfriends.  The traditional Stooges tomfoolery ensues, and even escalates when Larry thinks of a labor-saving device for recovering their couch.  He loads tacks into a special gun, enabling him to ‘shoot’ tacks into the furniture—which actually works quite well, until he and Shemp fight over who gets to use the rifle next, resulting in filling Moe’s derrière with tacks.

Eventually, the Three Stooges each go to visit their girlfriend—who, coincidentally, proposed to each of them on their first date.  This is the audience’s clue that something is up, and indeed it is—the Three Stooges are each dating the same girl (Connie Cezan) who is only interested in the diamond engagement ring that she expects to receive from each of them.  Predictably, all three of the Stooges discover each other hiding in her apartment, and an all-out fight breaks out—stunningly enough, Larry pays Moe back for his abuse with interest, nearly winning the fight until Shemp intervenes.  The true winner, however, is the gold digger girlfriend, who walks over the prone bodies of the Three Stooges out of the apartment, taking the rings with her.

Editorial review of Corny Casanovas (1952) starring the Three Stooges - courtesy of Amazon.com

“Corny Casanovas” (1952, short number 139 in the Columbia series) has only the barest of plot, and even that doesn’t start until nine minutes of destructive housekeeping are dispensed with. Somehow a sexy blonde (Connie Cezan) has talked each of the boys into getting her an engagement ring, and she has to keep each of them from finding the other two hidden in her apartment. Other than the rare occasion of Larry beating Moe into submission, there is little new here.

Funny movie quotes from Corny Casanovas starring the Three Stooges

Shemp: Gee, Moe, I’m sorry Moe, what mo’ can a fellow say? That’s all there is, there ain’t no mo’!

Shemp: Once the davenport is recovered, the place will be more presentable to the new bribes.
Moe: You mean brides.
Shemp: Anybody who’d marry you two would have to be bribed.

Moe: You’re getting to be a smart little imbecile.
Larry: Thank you!

Moe: (after being shot in the rear with dozens of tacks) I’m losing my mind!

Moe: (as Larry and Shemp pulls the tacks out of his rear) You’re pulling my heart out!

Larry: (after Moe has swallowed a tack) They won’t come out!
Shemp: The tacks went in—they must be in-come tacks!
