Meet the Mertzes - the life stories of I Love Lucy’s other couple
review of "Meet the Mertzes" an unauthorized biography of Vivian Vance and William Frawley - the life stories of I Love Lucy's other couple, by by Rob Edelman, Audrey Kupferberg. A very interesting dual biography of Vivian Vance and William Frawley, dealing with their lives before I Love Lucy, their work together and their personal dislike (if not hatred) of each other, and their lives and careers afterward. Extremely complete.Tell you, I’m sick and tired of how many times you can say how much two people had nothing but disdain for each other~!~!!
I think after you say something three time you have emphasized your point, and that’s the end, but, to go on and on in the same theme, you have killed the idea behind the story, and this book is a repitition of the same , just in different words at a different place, this is not meant to be funny, or very informative, and as is said that this pitiful hatered for each other really blows the whole idea of the show, and now that we all know that the studio all sat in hate of each other and there was no respect for some of the comedies that we saw, I know now that I shall never see it again, because I know now what went on behind the masks.
Too flippin’ bad. The whole classic is ruined for me, something smacks of the sad Bud Abbott and Lou Costello story,..once my best and funniest, , Bud tried with all of his heart to discourace Lou’s hatred of the world for losing a son. Now, I can’t see another Abbott & Costello again comedy again, as it was not, Lou Costello hated the world for what happens to so many of us, but, like the Mertzes and Desi and Lucille Ball took a wrecking ball of hate and wrecked their worthy adventures, and phoney laughs, so I guess they were better actors than I thought, the whole facade was a fraud, thanks to all but, Desi Arnaz,(as a Cuban band master, he knew the value of “the show must go on” but, this was rediculous! Desi, supposedly the main villian who “took the show down”...I guess it wasn’t really that way at all!
Too, too bad for the one time greats, boy what a way to bust a balloon~!~!~!Let’s hear it for Red Skelton! Hated no one and no one hated him, just love, that was Mr. Skelton, ("Good night and May God Bless”!)
