The Inspector General, starring Danny Kaye
A review of 'The Inspector General' starring Danny Kaye - Collector's Edition DVD - hilarious, high recommended - An illiterate stooge in a traveling medicine show (Danny Kaye) wanders into a strange town and is picked up on a vagrancy charge. The town's corrupt officials mistake him for the Inspector General whom they think is traveling in disguise. Fearing he will discover they've been pocketing tax money, they make several bungled attempts to kill him.Posted by Tom Raymond, aka Raynbow on 10/17 at 10:19 PM
Before I forget, the Alan Hale in this film is the father of the Skipper, but they did look almost exactly alike.
Oddly enough, I never stopped to realize that Danny Kaye was a clown - in the same way that Red Skelton and perhaps even Victor Borge are clowns. They all excelled at mixing in broad physical humor with wit.
I look forward to reading more of your reviews.
