A ‘flashback’ episode, taking place after the baby was born—after setting up the premise of Lucy being unable to make up her mind at their apartment (changing her outfit six times, and changing where she, Ricky, Fred and Ethel will go out to eat several times), there’s a very funny scene at the restaurant where the suffering waiter (played by character actor Frank Nelson) suffers through Lucy moving the group to another table, and then changing her order after each member of the quartet places their order, only to have them move again—eventually quitting his job and leaving the restaurant.

The next day, Ricky has laid down the law, and Lucy is finishing everything she started—starting with cleaning out the closet in the apartment that she started 11 years ago.  In the process, she finds an old unfinished love letter, which she decides to finish (but not mail) in order to have some fun with Ricky.  She tells Ethel, who spills the beans to Fred, who goes on to warn Ricky.  Forewarned is forearmed, and Ricky decides to have fun with Lucy in turn.  After Lucy ‘taunts’ him with the letter, and her alleged love affair with her old boyfriend, Ricky offers to mail the letter—and Lucy’s pride prevents her from saying no.  Ricky confides to Fred that he doesn’t plan to actually mail the letter, but just plans to let her ‘stew in her own goose’ for a while.

Lucy doesn’t know that, of course, so the next day she and Ethel go to the fur shop owned by her ‘boyfriend’ to try to explain—but Ricky and Fred have followed them, and so Lucy first pretends to be a mannequin, and then once Ricky is closer she begins flirting with a male mannequin, trying to make Ricky jealous.  It doesn’t work, as first the mannequin’s hand comes off, as does his torso—as Lucy tries to dance with him.

At the very end, Ethel comes out with Lucy’s old boyfriend, Tom Henderson—Lucy has mistaken Tom’s brother (short, bald and dumpy) for Tom (tall, dark and handsome).

Lucy Changes Her Mind is available as part of the season 2 I Love Lucy DVD collection.

Quotes from Lucy Changes Her Mind - I Love Lucy

Fred Mertz (William Frawley): That’s your fault, you’ve trained her wrong… The first dress Ethel puts on is the dress she wears.
Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): How do you manage that?
Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance): That’s easy, I’ve only got one dress.

Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): I like Chinese food, but I’m crazy about Italian food, too.
Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): Well, maybe we can find a place that serves ravioli foo yong.
Fred Mertz (William Frawley): Or chicken chow pizza.

Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): I know you have an interior motive.
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): That’s ulterior motive, and I do not.

Fred Mertz (William Frawley): Are you really going to mail it?
Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz): No, I’m just going to let her stew in her own goose for awhile.

Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance): That’s a gorgeous hunk of man?
Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball): Looks like my hunk has shrunk.
