Red Skelton Christmas Dinner starring Red Skelton as Freddy the Freeloader
A wonderful film. Watch it not only at Christmastime, but whenever you need a laugh, or a smile, or a warm feeling inside. It stars Red Skelton as Freddy the Freeloader, a happy hobo (reviewer’s bias: Freddy the Freeloader is my all-time, favorite, hobo clown; I believe this character personifies this category of clown), who is perpetually broke, yet perpetually happy, sure that his next meal is right around the corner. Red is at his best here, playing Freddy for humor, switching to pathos, and switching back to humor seamlessly.

In addition to simply being a wonderful clown at his best, this is also a very nice Christmas film, with Freddy emphasizing thinking of others at his own expense. Of course, it all works out in the end, with someone buying a Christmas dinner for Freddy and his friends.

His friends, you ask? None other than Vincent Price and Imogene Coca, playing wonderful, human, funny hobo clowns as well.

I rate it 5 clowns clownclownclownclownclown on a 5-clown scale.
