I think it's because he doesn't have a guitar to hold.
When you're performing for years holding an instrument it could feel uncomfortable being onstage without one.

Don't know which country they are from but in Muslim countries, Islam requires both men and women to cover all their body except face and hands, except men can go without head covers if desired. (B/c "a women's hair is supposed to be her glory"). It might suggest Trey and Dave's clothing, who knows? Respect?

FAct is, compared to everyone else on stage, dave as a guitar player blows. fact. Thats is why he has no guitar in hand. Even in the vh1 special performance he didnt. Trey and baobab wailing and dave sat there signing backup in a special with his name on it lol. He is a hack
