@teamcoupe its really about your hand size and how the stick fits in your hand personally. thicker sticks can allow for more power per attack on the drum but i think thinner sticks can allow for faster wrist movements. its mostly personal preference

My question is, can stick size help or hinder you in this exercise? For example is it easier to practice this with a 5a stick as opposed to a 2b or does it matter?
