Oh you're talking about the floor mat gas pedal thing? yes, it did affect a wide range of models.. and was a spectacular blunder.. However, it should be noted that prior to that recall, Toyota was never even in the top ten of large recalls (mostly dominated by ford and chevy)... But old engineering, low quality?... I think you need to check again on who's ignorant..

I'm no rocket scientist, but I've got years of mechanical experience over you, guaranteed. Even a few Milliliters of water will crack your block and bend rods and trash your wrist pins. It's pretty god damn hard to fake a motor going into the water and then it starting back up right away with just a few combination wrenches. It can be done, I've seen it done, I've done it myself. Look up what we wheel through on Vancouver Island.
