It's not just a tuner. There is a tuner a decoder and then it has to convert the digital picture into analog and sent it our the rf, I would think it needs at least a few watts. That is probably why it's only getting 1 1/2 hours on 8 batteries that probably each have 5 watt hours in them. Try rechargeable because they are better with high power applications like this.

it will work your forgetting its just a tuner just new digital tv work on batteries i have tried this and i used 8 AA batteries useing a battery pack and it works fro around 1 and a half hours i take my analog tv when fishing or just when going to a provincial park its works just fine

I wonder how much power that thing is using? I doubt it would even work with an alkaline battery pack, unless it is using only a couple of watts. My guess is it's probably around 20 watts or so which you will never get out of a 9v battery or a modest battery pack.
