1:07 Bad beginning: you didn't have a bunch of people dying suddenly as they turn 28... You had may one new-born of every five or six dying in the first weeks of live, 50% of the kids didn't reach five years, then, the survivors had the life expectancy of the late 19th century. (for the new-borns mortality it did reach a peak of nearly 50% when the mothers were told to give birth in the hospitals without asepsy). Does anyone believe that old folks didn't exist at all before?

@ferna186: The free market is leading to crops being converted to corn for the production of ethanol? Really? Government subsidizing ethanol production is.

The idea speaks nothing of the costs of externalities, or the cost of harvesting resources to nonhuman animals or the environment at large. We are inextricably linked to our environment. See soaring cancer rates and climbing mortality rates (if you don't care about anything but people) for a problem that has already outpaced human ingenuity.

Resources are limited. You can see this with food already. It was realized in 1991 (after the green revolution in farming) that supporting the world's current population (5.4B) on an American-style diet would require 2.5 times as much grain as the world's farmers produced for all purposes. And now the free market is leading to crops being converted to corn for the production of ethanol (well subsidized in the USA).

@jiggystardust "every last cent of my money for a living passenger pigeon." Here you go: en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Mourning_ Dove#Closest_ species "One of the most abundant and widespread of all North American birds. [...] individual Mourning Doves is estimated to be approximately 475 million" "The Mourning Dove is considered to be the most closely related species to the Passenger Pigeon (Ectopistes migratorius) [...] a good choice for cloning the Passenger Pigeon in the future."

Glad to have found a video of Julian Simon. I read an essay by him ages ago, but never thought of looking him up. Great channel. I actually found this video by watching another one of your videos.

"...technological progess can only advance so far." this statement is completely outside of any evidence. history and educated consideration of the future based on current developments tells us otherwise.

Plus, the more the population grows, the more the money in circulation is worth. Because you end up with more goods and services competing for every dollar (or silver coin, etc.)
